This trip is scheduled for the last week of November, so the snow conditions should be better than ever this year! This ski trip is geared towards 2nd year skiers & up, usually 9th grade and above. Exceptions have been made for younger and experienced skiers. Parents are welcome also! The 2012 trip filled up very quickly, so if you are interested in attending this super fun ski camp, send in your deposit asap. If you have any questions, please call or email me. All 2013 WY forms were attached in a group email. The trip is sponsored by the wonderful coaches at Duluth East Nordic, Bonnie & Dave Kask. They have been conducting all of this for more than 15 years..!

To reserve your seat on the bus, get your $300 non-refundable deposit to Bonnie ASAP. The seats will be filled on a first come first served basis. It’s almost Fall here in Minnesota’s Northland and just one month until “The Women’s Fall Fun Run/Walk Retreat”. Make your plan now to join other adventurous Women who love the outdoors. This first Women’s Fun Trail Run/Walk is being held at Giant’s Ridge September 27, 28 & 29. Giant’s Ridge has over 60 kilometers of beautiful wide trails through the pine and hardwood forests. Lodging for our women’s group is available in the Sports Dorm or at the Villa’s. The Sports Dorm can house up to 96 women. Each of the dorm’s 24 units sleeps up to four in two bunk beds and every room has a private bath and shower. The spacious dorm lobby and meeting room provides a convenient area for group activities plus a large kitchen is available for your food and snacks. The sports dorm rate is an affordable ($65 per night) and is a fun lodging option. If you aren’t interested in sleeping in a bunk bed, lodging is also available at the Villa’s at Giant’s Ridge. Plus there is more fun available. Bring your golf clubs along if you golf since Giants Ridge is famous for its world class golf. The Mesabi bike trail travels past and through Giant’s Ridge so bring your bike if you wish. Kayaks are also available for rent. You won’t run out of fun things to do!
Registration Fee is $20 per participant. Net proceeds go to help support the local (Mesabi East, Gilbert and Virginia) High School Cross Country teams. To properly prepare we need your registration by September 16, 2013 - Thank You !

We will wrap everything up this week (#8) of summer training with a trail run today, and celebrate our endurance & fitness levels with a BBQ on Wednesday. Our 2013 Summer G.U.T.S. - (get up & train smart) training shirts are underway, and should be done within the next week...
Monday- July 29th, Giant's Ridge, 4-5:30 pm Wednesday- July 31, Run / Swim /Kickball/Wiffle ball /BBQ: 4-6 pm, Giants Ridge.
A (vintage) GIANT domination, with a Mora imposter for the top 10 at the 2013 Fisherman's Point 5K! Sam Johnson- 3rd, Bennett Maki- 4th, Adam Stainiger- 5th, Dan Radtke- 8th. Other summer training members / skiers rounding out the field of 190 were: Austin Lovaas- 22, Paul Meloche - 28, Stephanie Madzey- 40, Lynnette Crosby- 45, Abbey Whiting- 62, Ian Ramfjord-65, Amelia Wagner- 75, Spencer Walchuk-87. Complete results will be posted soon at www.northlandrunner.com . This race was a good measure of what you all have been doing for 8 weeks. Keep it going - the fall sports season is right around the corner!
A huge round of THANKS to all ski team members & parents for your continued support of the Fisherman's Point 5K race. And... a shout out to Coach Jon Wagner - for providing his timing services & race course markings all these years! This race would not be as successful as it is, if it weren't for ALL of you giving up your Saturday morning every 4th weekend in July! This completed year # 8 for our team and the funds raised will be a bonus for ski trips, equipment, etc. Team roller skis are at the top of my list for next summer!

Jul 21, 2013, 7:30 pm We had lots of togetherness last week- with 3 solid days of training & our unload / load party for the MS Tram Tour in Biwabik. A huge shout-out of THANKS to everyone that made the early trips to Biwabik on Wed & Thurs. "Natural strength training" at it's best with... (900 cyclist bags / gear)! I know some of you ran the "Color Run" & it looks like it was a super fun time! Nice support for the YMCA too!

Wed., July 24, 4-6 pm. Mesabi East. Long distance run- trails / creeks / woods with an ice cream finish at the A & W- coaches treat!
Thurs., July 25, 4-6 pm. Hoyt Lakes Arena. Run the Fisherman's Pt. 5k route, set up a few things, eat at the community picnic. (bring $5.00)
Saturday, July 27, 7 am. Fisherman's Pt. 5K Run / Walk, Hoyt Lakes Arena. Set-up, registration (starts at 7:30), food / beverage prep, etc. Race begins at 9:00. Still need volunteers for race help! Let me know asap if you can lend a hand!

Whew- last week was full of great accomplishments! Running 5 1/2- 6 (very hilly) miles with a hiccup of rock strength training on Monday, then upper body / core of kayaking / sup / (coach canoe dumping) on Wed, while wrapping our Thursday with a partner deal of a run / bike event. Nice job everyone!!! OOps- I accidentally deleted the last home page, (week # 5) I'll try to recoup some of that info within this next week.... anyway, here is what is shaping up for week #6 of our summer training plan...
Monday, July 15th - Nordic walking / hill bounding, Giant's Ridge. note time change: 4-5:30. Wednesday, July 17th - EXTREME & SUPREME TOTAL WORKOUT: Run, Weights, Pool Workout at Mesabi East, 4-6 pm.

When: Saturday, July 27th starting at 7am What: set-up, registration, course control, finish line postings, & tear-down help. The race is at 9am, with everything winding down by 10:30-11:00 am. Where: Hoyt Lakes Arena
** Parents ** Please let me know if you are able to lend a hand, email me by Monday, July 22. I need to know how much help will be available.
** Skiers ** come set up before you run the race…. and if you aren’t running or walking, you need to work the race in some capacity, in order to receive reduced fees for the 2012/13 ski trips. (West Yellowstone & Maplelag) Registration for all team & family members is $ 10.00. Download an entry form off this website.

It was a fun first week of training- good food, old & new friends, sunny skies, and cold lakes!
A blending of programs has come into play, as Coach Jon Wagner (E-G CC / Track) & I have decided to mix our fitness interests together to make it easier for all athlete's involved from Mesabi East, Virginia & Eveleth-Gilbert. The more kids- the more fun! Come as often as your and your parents' schedule allows!
Here is what the schedule looks like for week # 2. All sessions run 4-6 pm unless noted otherwise.
Monday, June 17th: Giant's Ridge. Silver Trail Run. Roller Boards / Core. Wednesday, June 19th: Mesabi East. Distance Run through Forest & Creeks. Thursday, June 20th: Big Aspen. Fartlek Loops. Meet at YMCA. Bring money for Dairy Queen stop after.
Wednesday's 5 1/2 mile forest run with a mine pit "de-bug" & cool off.
- Always remember to bring a WATER BOTTLE. - Carpooling from Mesabi East, at 3:30 in the pool parking lot. Stops at Honk the Moose in Biwabik.
** For Carpooling: Call, text, or email me to let me know when you need a ride so I can plan drivers accordingly. Parents- I may ask for a driver every now & then....**
